What are PDO Threads?
Lifting treatments that use special threads have been executed for several years. There are many different kinds of threads on the market. The latest product used in such treatments is called a PDO thread. In contrast to the previously used threads, PDO threads do not have hooks or tapers that suspend tissue. The lifting effect is achieved by a special thread weave and polydioxanone (PDO) which has properties that stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin, helping to tighten and smooth the contours of the face.
PDO Threads technology is based on using the natural skin tension lines, which also causes an effect similar to a surgical facelift.
By introducing the PDO Threads in the skin, we get immediate improvement in its appearance. After about 10-14 days, synthesis of the body’s natural proteins (collagen and elastin) begins. This process continues throughout the period of maintaining the threads in the body (up to 240 days). The resulting aesthetic effect continues typically for up to 24 months. When using the thread, we are strengthening the sagging tissue. Due to the rapid absorption of thread, there is no risk of thickening and scarring.

What happens during PDO Thread Lift treatment?
Points of entry are identified for the needle and thread input lines under the skin.
After determining the scope of the treatment, the needles are placed into the subcutaneous tissue. Needles are placed at specific points on the face to get the most effective skin tightening effect.
The needles are removed, and the threads remain behind in the subcutaneous tissues. They are not visible, and there are no puckers or knots.
Am I Suitable for this Treatment?
PDO Threads can be used for a wide range of ageing and skin concerns. It is a very safe treatment and is suitable for all skin types. As with any treatment, you will need to undergo a thorough consultation with Dr Mel to see if this is the right solution for you
How long does it take?
The procedure usually takes 30 – 60 minutes, but it will depend on what treatment you are having.
Is there any downtime / recovery?
Immediately after the treatment, the skin might be slightly reddened with mild swelling and the risk of bruising. They usually disappear within a few days.
There may be mild tenderness over the injection sites with the PDO Threads being mildly palpable for 2-3 days. This will settle and the tread will become “invisible” after 2-3 days.
The treatment is performed using topical anaesthetic to minimize any discomfort but the treatment is minimally painful.
What kind of result can I expect?
The effects of some of the treatment can be seen immediately, but keep in mind that formation of new collagen starts after 10-14 days and then it really starts to show relevant effects of the treatment.
